    CBS's "The Couch"

    Chef Burke was a featured guest, along with "The Real Housewives of New York City's" Jill Zarin, on CBS New York's "Live From the Couch." Chef Burke demonstrated how to make one of his award-winning Double Juicy Burkey Burgers, which is a top=seller at David Burke at Bloomingdale's and is stuffed with cheddar cheese and caramelized onions. The hosts dug into the burger and several other treats Chef Burke brought along with him, after the demonstration.

    Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties Donation

    Recently, Chef Burke and Skuna Bay Salmon donated a total of $4,200 to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in Neptune, New Jersey. Chef Burke took a walk-through of the Foodbank, which aims to curb hunger and provide healthy, nutritious meals to families in the counties.

    David Named NJRA Restaurateur of the Year

    On November 26, the New Jersey Restaurant Association hosted its annual Gold Plate and Restaurateur of the Year gala. At the premier event, Chef Burke was bestowed with the organization’s highest honor: the Restaurateur of the Year award, for his award-winning restaurant Fromagerie, in Rumson. Chef worked at the restaurant at the beginning of his career and was proud to purchase it many years later. Through member education, advocacy, networking, and support, the NJRA has become an essential ingredient for successful and professional eating and drinking establishments, vendors, non-profits, schools and students in the Garden State.

    Annual Freedom Awards

    On November 8, Chef Burke was honored to speak at the annual Freedom Award Dinner for the International Rescue Committee, an organization that provides relief to refugees in more than 40 countries.  The event, which was hosted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, honored John C. Whitehead, a longtime New Yorker who has served on the board since 1979. Chef Burke is involved with the IRC through an initiative called “New Roots,” which helps refugees adjust to their new lives in the U.S. by giving them land to farm.  In his speech at the gala, Chef told the story of how he put Burmese refugee and new employee Ah Lun's soup on the menu at David Burke Kitchen in Manhattan. Ah Lun, who farms at the New Roots garden in the Bronx, hopes one day to open his own restaurant. The event raised $4 million.

    Helping Sandy Relief Efforts

    On October  29, the  David Burke Group was reminded that we truly are a team when we witnessed the havoc that Superstorm Sandy wreaked on our friends and family in New York and New Jersey.  While most of our restaurants were forced to close during that time, Fishtail in Manhattan remained open, and Chef Burke and his sons Connor and Dylan were on hand to feed hungry employees and neighbors. In New Jersey, Chef arranged for 125 pounds of Skuna salmon to be donated to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean counties, and he and his staff made and delivered 500 Burke in the Box lunches for Keansburg and Union Beach residents who lost their homes to the storm. Fromagerie chefs Phil Deffina and Stuart Marx cooked breakfast for several hundred displaced Sea Bright residents and fed volunteers working on disaster recovery in Sea Bright, as well as Rumson and Fair Haven fire departments and a comfort station set up in Bingham Hall, Rumson.

    Second Annual GenR Party

    On July 24, Chef Burke and the International Rescue Committee partnered to host the Second Annual GenR Party at David Burke Kitchen. Proceeds from the event went to the committee and supported the New Roots campaign. New Roots farmer and refugee, Ah Lun, gave a truly touching speech expressing his gratitude to the IRC and his excitement about the opportunity to work with Chef Burke at one of his restaurants. Morena Baccarin, star of Showtime’s Homeland hosted the event. It was surely a night to remember!

    Chef Burke got a new executive chef for his Rumson, NJ restaurant, Fromagerie, on July 5.     Chef Burke Teaming with the International Rescue Committee

    Chef Burke became an official spokesman for the International Rescue Committee on September 6th, joining "Parks and Recreation" star, Rashida Jones, and "Homeland" regular, Morena Baccarin, among others, in an effort to raise awareness for the cause.     IRC Drew Garden Visit

    Chef Burke visited a group of refugee farmers in the New Roots farm at Drew Garden in the Bronx, creating an improvised, “on the fly” lunch dish with freshly picked ingredients.     City Meals on Wheels – Chefs’ Tribute

    Chef Burke served his signature dishes with the likes of other well-regarded NYC chefs, including Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert, and Marcus Samuellson, at the 27th Annual Meals On Wheels Chefs Tribute. With the event being themed as “chef’s favorite movies,” Chef Burke had a chance to show off his whimsical side and take people into “Burke’s World.” Serving his signature cheesecake lollipops and savory push pop hors d’oeuvres, he completed the picture by having ‘Oz dressed servers and featured a Himalayan rock salt yellow brick road.

    Studio Square BBQ

    David Burke and Sam Adams Beer partnered to host the 2nd Annual Summer Spit BBQ in The Garden at Studio Square NYC, offering guests an eclectic menu of barbecue fare. Among the special Chef prepared dishes were two full hogs slow cooked on a custom-built rotisserie spit. All menu items were paired with one of eight different Sam Adams brews and select bourbons supplied by Jim Beam. There was also live music, an interactive brewing demonstration, and a Q&A session with Chef Burke.

    Table to Table – Chefs’ Gala

    David Burke, among other critically acclaimed and well-known chefs, honored the fabulous Lydia Bastianich at Table to Table’s “Chef’s Gala” on May 8th.     Trip to Australia with Denihan Hospitality

    Chef Burke traveled to Sydney, Australia in March to promote Denihan Hospitality Group.     Chef Burke was featured on Bloomberg TV’s “The Mentor” on February 28, mentoring Breckenridge Bourbon owner Bryan Nolt.
